I’m going to be honest, being a Council member and active voice on CT is very draining. I’m beginning to question whether it’s even worth being a public-facing persona for the Neo ecosystem.
The majority that appreciate what we do at NNT are silent, very silent, and the loud minority are very loud - a constant drain on finite attention and energy. It’s almost to the point that it makes me question what I’m even creating content for, and for whom.
Being a Council member (or “validator node” for those outside the ecosystem) is also a Catch-22. We get publicly shamed for how we try to use our GAS funding from validating blocks in the Neo blockchain.
When we collect GAS, the loud haters say we’re a part of the problem, collecting an earning and perpetuating a status quo of mediocrity (or outright failure) in the Neo ecosystem.
If I’m constantly saying good things about what’s happening in the ecosystem, I’m labeled as a shill (or worse, a spy for another government, which, yes, has happened multiple times over the years).
When we spend GAS to try to onboard new devs/teams, or host events to get together to try to improve the direction of our ecosystem, we’re accused of dumping tokens and depreciating the price of NEO and GAS.
Many times, the teams and people we invest in are overlooked or outright forgotten, and we get little to no credit for trying to onboard new blood.
Even the projects that are building seem to have internal wars amongst themselves, and it’s an impossible to task support BUIDLers with fair coverage, because others will comment on how that team isn’t building to their standards.
And even worse, the communities that have stuck around in the ecosystem over the years, through the price drops, dying dApps, and changes in leadership, are painted in a negative light. When the simple fact is, there’d be no ecosystem at all if many of the international development community ceased to contribute code, products, and deliverables for the Neo ecosystem.
On the heels of Centre Point #2, I’m forced to admit that this literally is a turning point for Neo. It is our ecosystem’s make it or break it moment. And, it’s hard to keep my heels dug in and ready to fight with the types of interactions about the Neo ecosystem I generally have with people here on CT.
If you’ve seen much of my content skew towards more general blockchain and crypto over the past year or so, this is largely the culprit.
So, yeah… I guess I’m at a crossroads for how beneficial it is for my mental health and professional drive to be a public-facing figure for an ecosystem fighting for its life.
If you’ve dealt with this sort of dilemma before, I’d love to hear thoughts or insights you’ve accumulated over the years.
